Ifugao Bulul - Rice Gaurdian Deity

Narra wood carved female 'BULUL' (an anthropomorphic figure that serves as a rice terrace gaurdian deity for the Ifugao people (a group of wet-rice agriculturists) occupying northern Luzon island in the Phillippines. They are believed to gaurd the rice crop planted on the multiple terraced plateaus in the remote high mountainous region of the island, known world wide as the Banaue Rice Terraces. 

The Ifugao people inhabit an area of some 900 square kilometers mostly within Ifugao Province, between 1,000 and 1,500 meters above sea level. The Banaue Rice Terraces are oftentimes and popularly referred to as the "Eighth Wonder of the World" and officially recognized as a National Cultural Treasure and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These terraces were ceated over 2000 years ago.
